Chances are, you’ve never noticed PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards)—but they’re the unsung backbone of every phone, electric vehicle (EV), and 5G base station you use. Once, China’s PCB industry was all about “high volume, low cost”: supplying 70% of the global market, but only squeezed out thin profits from basic FR-4 PCBs. Today, thanks to high-frequency materials, it’s broken into the high-end market—with unit prices jumping from tens to over a thousand dollars, shifting from "scale-driven""to "tech-led".

Basic FR-4 PCBs are like electronic "dirt roads": cheap to make, but too slow and lossy for 5G, AI servers, or satellite communications. Those high-end devices need "signal highways"—PCBs made with high-frequency materials (e.g., PTFE, modified epoxy). These materials outperform FR-4 drastically: cutting signal loss to 1/3, boosting transmission speed 5-10x, and withstanding high temperatures. For 5G base stations, ordinary PCBs lose half a signal in 10 meters; high-frequency ones slash that loss by 60%.

Not long ago, Japan and the U.S. (e.g., Rogers, Sumitomo) monopolized high-frequency materials—charging 10x more and restricting supplies. Chinese players fought back: they tweaked resin formulas through thousands of tests to create domestic materials with dielectric loss ≤0.002 (matching imports); upgraded to dust-free workshops (controlling particles under 0.1μm) to push yield from 60% to 95%; and partnered with Huawei, Tesla to test and refine products in real scenarios.

Today, Chinese firms like Shennan Circuit and Shengyi Technology dominate 35% of the global high-end PCB market—no longer relying on imports. The shift is game-changing: a single AI server PCB now earns more than 100 basic ones. China’s gone from "low-end OEM" to "high-end customizer", even dictating pricing for global clients.

With 95% of global high-end PCBs made in China (70% using domestic materials), the industry has rewritten its story. From 5G streams to EV autonomy, Chinese high-frequency PCBs are the invisible drivers—proving "value leap" comes from tech, not just scale.
